I have been 5 weeks without my mtx as I have a cough. I just picked up my latest bloodtests (taken on Wed) Now some results show my bloods are better without mtx and my CRP is fine but my ALT has shot up, from 44 to 58. It has been steadily rising over the last 4 months (23 in July) My book says it should be under 50 and the print out said 'above high reference limit) yet the receptionist said the results were satisfactory. So - do I start worrying. My mtx book says rising ALT levels can indicate liver inflammation. I would have expected this to go down when I am not taking any mtx. Advice gratefully received.

Hi Sue - Don't panic! I often have raised ALT levels and I find no-one really starts to take much notice until it gets to about 120-130. As you've come off mtx, it should start going down soon. Don't forget - mtx can stay in your system for 3 months. Take care and don't loose any sleep over it. Enjoy the weekend. Love Jeanxxx
